When it comes to your child, you expect the best medicine from the top experts. At HCA Virginia, we care for thousands of children each year through our network of family doctors and pediatricians and special services, such as lab and imaging. If your child needs to be admitted to the hospital, you'll find a welcoming, family-centered environment.
Our Emergency Room (ER) teams have received special training and tools to provide the best care for children. Inpatient care is available at our Pediatric Centers at Henrico Doctors' Hospital and Chippenham Hospital; Chippenham also offers a dedicated Pediatric ER and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU). While Chippenham and Henrico Doctors' are our primary hubs for pediatric emergencies, all of our hospital locations, including West Creek Emergency Center, are equipped to handle emergency pediatric issues.
For children and adolescents struggling with depression, addition or mental health issues, we offer comprehensive inpatient care at Tucker Pavilion.
Across the HCA Virginia network, we meet your expectations with:
- The only community-based pediatric emergency room in the region staffed 24/7 by pediatric-trained physicians and nurses
- Family-friendly care for children admitted to the hospital
- Pediatric Intensive Care for children needing a higher-level of monitoring and care
- Special doctors called pediatric hospitalists who are onsite 24/7 at our Pediatric Centers
- Nurses with special training and certification in pediatric care
- Pastoral care for families of all faiths
Our dedicated team provides care around the clock for infants, children, teens and young adults up to age 21. We treat patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions and disabilities, ranging from diabetes, asthma, concussion and fractures to croup and pneumonia. If your child has a heart condition, you can rest assured knowing we offer comprehensive pediatric cardiology services and partner with cardiac surgeons across the region.
Safety and Security
Your child's safety and security is of the utmost importance to us. Our pediatric units are secured, which means our doors are locked and visitors must call from a phone outside the door for access. Video cameras are posted so nurses can monitor hallways and doors.
Our central monitoring system allows our nurses to keep a watchful eye on your child. Our pediatric nurses continuously monitor your child's vital signs both in the room and at the nurse's station. In addition, Pediatric Rapid Response Teams at Henrico Doctors' monitor patients up to the age of 18 whose health status requires ongoing assessment for changes in heart or respiratory rate or neurological status.
