Life after cancer. Yes, your life goes on. And we help you plan for this next phase with the most complete cancer survivorship program in the Richmond area.
Navigate the Next Chapter: Cancer Survivorship
At HCA Virginia, you'll find the country's first Web-based survivorship program -- your personal portal allowing you to connect with all your doctors and nurses for guidance to your follow-up -- monitoring and care after completing your treatments. Regardless of where you first received cancer care, you're welcome to work with our nurse navigators and take advantage of this exceptional program for prevention and care following cancer treatment.
With the individualized assistance of our nurse navigators, you can get back to your life, your work and your family by learning to adapt to changes in your energy level and stamina, nutrition, medications and the potential for lymphedema or swelling and fluid retention. Classes, support groups, educational resources and survivor events all help restore your quality of life.
Members of your care team work together to help you succeed in developing a plan for your ongoing healthcare. Whether your life returns to the way it was before your cancer diagnosis and treatment or if you're facing a new normal that encompasses concerns about your physical and emotional health or finances, planning for your future helps you move forward productively.
Survivors Reflection Garden
You'll enjoy the Survivors Reflection Garden at Johnston-Willis Hospital, a green, tranquil and growing space for celebrating life and remembering those whose struggle with cancer has come to an end. Lined with cypress trees and filled with flowering plants and foliage, the site provides a quiet, shaded, brick-trimmed area sprouting a variety of medicinal herbs that have influenced modern medicine and cancer treatment. Engraved bricks surrounding the garden, donated by cancer survivor Elbert L. Pugh, Sr., came from the elementary school in Old Towne Petersburg, Virginia, and serve as a permanent memorial gift or as a survivor's celebration. For sanctuary, solitude or as a place to gather with family and friends, the Reflection Garden is open to all and hosts events throughout the year.
