Trust HCA Virginia for Trauma Care

Not every hospital can rise to the challenges of trauma treatment. At Chippenham Hospital, we're the experts in saving lives. Our Level III Trauma Center is designated by the state as one of Virginia's 14 trauma centers.

Being a state-recognized trauma center means we've volunteered to provide a higher level of care for the most critically injured patients. It also means our standards are reviewed and updated based on national standards published by the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Emergency Physicians.

We're prepared for trauma patients. Our specially-trained medical professionals with specialized equipment, converge at the bedside of critically ill or injured patients when they arrive in the ER. We deliver care immediately, with a rapid and systematic protocol ensuring these patients receive the critical attention they need quickly.

What is a Trauma Center?

Trauma centers treat patients with body wounds or shock produced by a sudden physical accident or violence. Examples include car accidents, workplace accidents, fire or smoke inhalation, an act of violence, a recreational accident or a sporting accident. These are injuries that require fast action from a team of experts. At Chippenham, we're trained in emergency resuscitation, surgery and intensive care of most trauma patients.

Trauma care begins with EMS response. Having knowledge and experience in trauma care allows EMS technicians to make split-second life-saving decisions, treatment that can be seamlessly transferred to our ER staff. We work closely with our EMS partners to provide critical care before you even arrive, so we can best anticipate your needs and be prepared to treat those needs immediately.
