An upper endoscopy procedure visually examines the esophagus (throat), stomach and first part of the small intestine. Various gastrointestinal problems, such as pain in the stomach or abdomen, difficulty swallowing, vomiting, indigestion, tumors or ulcers, can be investigated with an upper endoscopy.
Some conditions may even be treated using endoscopy such as removing polyps or taking tissue samples for analysis.
