Women have never been more active or so in need of gender-focused sports medicine services. At HCA Virginia, we know firsthand about the rewards and challenges experienced by women who participate in athletics. Our depth of experience and specialized programs help women and girls play strong and meet their performance goals, whatever their sport, age or skill level.
Unique Health Needs
Like their male counterparts, girls and women experience a variety of sprains, strains and other athletic injuries. But they also face gender-related conditions and concerns that may increase their likelihood of injury and require specialized diagnosis and treatment. Our women's sports medicine experts are uniquely prepared to educate and care for active women as they deal with:
- Stress fractures
- Hip and knee pain and injuries, including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears
- Shoulder and upper extremity injuries
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Sports fitness during and after pregnancy
- The female athlete triad of disordered eating, amenorrhea (cessation of monthly menstruation) and osteoporosis (weakening of the bones)
